Overview

Onfido is an identity verification provider built around document and biometric verification, with a no-code orchestration layer (Onfido Studio / Entrust IDV) for combining IDV checks, trusted data sources, and passive fraud signals. Onfido was acquired by Entrust in April 2024 and is being progressively integrated into the Entrust identity portfolio, including alignment with Entrust's identity and access management products.

Strengths

  • Strong fit for document and biometric verification with deepfake-aware liveness
  • No-code Studio workflow orchestration
  • Enterprise reach via Entrust's identity and access portfolio

Limitations and watchouts

  • Brand and product names are mid-transition to Entrust IDV; legacy Onfido SDKs are on a multi-year deprecation path.
  • Less depth in standalone AML, KYB, and transaction monitoring than broader compliance platforms.
